We know that the Freedom Tower is the tallest building in the U.S., but who is the tallest cousin out West?
The Wilshire Grand Center is a modern 1100' building boasting 73 floors. Even more impressive is that this large commercial building is LEED certified. One could only imagine the attention to detail needed in order to have a building of that size recognized as a sustainable structure. Throughout the construction, 11,500 workers pitched in to make the structure rise.
The two tallest buildings in the U.S. may be on opposite coasts, but they both share a similar completion date. The One World Trade Center was completed in 2014, The Wilshire Grand Center was completed 2017. Each project has its own unique creative contributors, but time will always have these buildings linked. If you look at the remains of any civilization, you will see common themes in the architecture. Even Though, these buildings are different, their materials and intricacies are similar. History will take into consideration the surrounding landscape from which these buildings were erected, in order to signify their individuality. When you marvel at a building, don’t forget to take into consideration the urban form in the surrounding area.
